‘Why do we need him?’, ‘Not better than Alvarez’ – Man City fans react as club target £150m-rated striker to play alongside Erling Haaland

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Etihad officials are currently monitoring the performances and development of Brighton & Hove Albion striking sensation Evan Ferguson.

The 18-year-old’s impressive early impact at the Amex Stadium, especially after the hat-trick against Newcastle United, have attracted the attention of European elites.

According to the information of The I’s Mark Douglas, Manchester City now ‘want to buy’ Brighton’s breakthrough striking sensation to play alongside Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

Although City want to extend Haaland beyond 2027, they are well aware of Real Madrid’s interest in the player and hence view Ferguson as part of their succession plan.

Meanwhile, having both Haaland and Ferguson in their ranks would make them further formidable and to make it come to fruition they want to lay the groundwork for the deal well in advance.

It is claimed that City are among a number of Premier League clubs monitoring Evan Ferguson following his hugely impressive start to the ongoing season.

The 18-year-old’s impact has reportedly sparked interest from “nearly every one” of the Premier League‘s Champions League contenders, a recruitment executive is quoted as saying within Douglas’ report.

City might have to dig deep in their pockets as Ferguson could be valued at £150 million ($189m) in the future by Brighton, especially if he continues his explosive form in the entire 2023-24 season.

Given his projected development, as well as his inspired form, it certainly feels like it’s only a matter of time before the teenager follows the likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Ben White out of the AMEX exit and become Roberto De Zerbi’s next record player.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@mcfc_Savio: “Why do we need him? We have two strikers and one has to play in the CAM position”

@Brxyne_17: “We already have Haaland and Alvarez.”

@Blackis04: “Can’t be true when we already have Haaland and Alvarez”

@Frankyd05: “Not better than Alvarez .”

@lordsalty57_: “If he can consistenly score at least 10-15 the next 3 years, we should really consider him..”

@The_FodenEra: “If Haaland is set to leave in 2024 then we will have the perfect replacement lined up. I see what we are doing here”

@SZN_FODEN47: “If Haaland leaves he surley has to be top of the list to replace him would be an amazing singing”

@FortunateOkello: “Unless they are willing to let go of Erling Haaland over the next 2 seasons, I don’t see why they’d be interested in Ferguson.”

@NeonNicole95: “I don’t see how we would fit him in unless Erling or Julian left both of which I never would want. I would love to see a really good Irish player at Man City, though. Haven’t had one since Stephen Ireland or Shay Given.”
