‘Smart move’, ‘let him rest’ – Man City fans react as club make decision on Rodri red card appeal

Manchester City will not appeal against the three-match ban handed to Rodri for violent conduct, with the central midfielder missing the crunch visit to Arsenal in a fortnight.

Rodri saw red for raising his hands to Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest and begins his suspension on Wednesday when City face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Manager Pep Guardiola was not in favour of appealing the decision — stating that the 27-year-old had to ‘learn his lesson’ — and that view has been mirrored by the club.

Now, Manchester City have made their decision on whether to appeal the decision made on Saturday afternoon, which will keep Rodri out of the club’s next three matches in domestic football this season.

According to Jack Gaughan of MailSport, Manchester City have decided now to appeal the decision to send off Rodri for violent conduct at the Etihad Stadium, meaning he will miss their mammoth Premier League encounter away to Arsenal next month.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@wrjn25: “Smart move, got the (deserved) punishment and move on, don’t risk adding an extra game to it with a pointless appeal”

@Shady_19: “Good. It was a clear red so the chances of getting it reduced was slim to none, but it very well could have ended in another match being added on.”

@mcfclou: “That’s fair let him rest, not even worth the fight really”

@ManCitty9320: “Good thing it’s in a period we are playing Carabao Cup and two small teams in PL”

@supermcfc: “Let Rodri rest for once. He’ll be back after international break”

@BossWhyt: “Let him have his very much deserved rest. We should be fine for just 3 games. Could’ve bn worst if he was injured.”

@mcfcerenfan125: “Fairs it was deserved but still worth a shot”

@sm537: “That’s good, man needed some rest”

@sgilbertaz: “Let it be a lesson to Rodri and the rest of the club to maintain their composure at all times…we would have lost the appeal anyway…”
