Brighton are keen to tie star player Kaoru Mitoma down to a new contract amid transfer rumours linking him with the likes of Manchester City.
Mitoma has impressed since returning from a loan spell at Belgian side Royale Union Saint Gilloise. He has already scored one goal and assisted three more in the Premier League for Roberto De Zerbi’s team this term. His recent development resulted in reports that Europe’s top teams are keeping an eye on him, after scoring 10 goals and laying on eight assists in 2022/23.
Manchester City find themselves among an illustrious group of suitors interested in securing the services of Mitoma. Alongside Man City, other prominent clubs like Liverpool, Barcelona, and Napoli have also shown keen interest in the player.
On his Substack column, Romano has responded to Mitoma being linked with Man City and has downplayed talk of the Japan international being on the move for the time being.
Romano claimed that Brighton want to fend off interest in their star despite the reported interest from Pep Guardiola’s side.
“My understanding is that there is nothing at the moment – I asked today and there is nothing to report on player or club side,” Romano stated.
“Brighton love Mitoma and for sure they want him to stay on a long-term deal, it’s very normal to see top clubs following him but as I said for Evan Ferguson, also for Mitoma we’ll get ten or more links per week but nothing will happen this or next month.
“Mitoma is 100% focused on Brighton and they don’t even want to mention an asking price for the player.”
Mitoma to Man City?
Mitoma’s ability to make a difference in high-stakes matches surely makes him a sought-after asset. His versatility and flair on the wing provide an exciting prospect for potential suitors like Man City.
De Zerbi piled the praise on the dynamic star during an interview with Sky Sports: “I think he’s one of the best players in the world at 1vs1s.”
While Brighton seem confident in tying Mitoma down to a new deal, City will closely monitor the situation over the coming months.
As the situation unfolds, City fans will undoubtedly be eager to see how the club navigates the potential pursuit of Kaoru Mitoma. The competition for his signature from other top clubs adds intrigue to the scenario, but City’s track record could be a persuasive factor in their favour.
In 45 appearances across all competitions for the Seagulls, the Japanese international has 11 goals and as many assists. Ultimately, whether Mitoma remains with Brighton or explores new horizons, his performances will continue to be closely watched by Man City and other interested parties.
