Former defender Micah Richards believes Manchester City’s exit from the Carabao Cup risks denting Oscar Bobb’s chances of storing more minutes under his belt.
The 20-year-old was in action for Manchester City against Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.
He started in the No.10 role and produced an eye-catching performance, featuring plenty of promise and potential.
Former City star Micah Richards has praised Bobb and has expressed his admiration for the forward.
However, the BBC Sport pundit does not think that City manager Pep Guardiola is going to play Bobb much now that the Citizens are out of the EFL Cup.
“I thought Kalvin Phillips did really well considering he has not played a lot of football,” Richards told The Rest of Football podcast. “But Oscar Bobb, the forward, the left-footer for City, he was outstanding.
“His close control, weight of pass, everything about his game, he was buzzing, lovely little touches around the corner, but the problem is now you are probably not going to see a lot of these players again.
“The League Cup sort of keeps their season alive a little bit, but now because City are so consistent in the league, you are probably not going to see any more of these players, which is a shame.”
