Manchester City are ‘closely monitoring’ thҽ situation of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen, with talks over a new contract at Stamford Bridge at a standstill.
Branded as a ‘clever player’ by Andy Myers (via Chelsea’s official website), who was his former mentor at Burnley, thҽ 21-year-old had one hell of a campaign at Turf Moor on loan last season.
Blessed with quick feet, pace and a genuine threat down thҽ left flank, Maatsen is regarded as one of thҽ best up-and-coming young full-backs in Europe.
Now, it has indeed been reported that Manchester City are one of thҽ many European clubs keen on signing Ian Maatsen, who is yet to reciprocate Chelsea’s interest in extending his contract beyond 2024.
According to 90 min, Maatsen’s expiring contract has ‘attracted attention from several European clubs, including Premier League and Champions League champions, Man City.’
Pep Guardiola has been on thҽ hunt for a new natural left-back for some time, as he isn’t convinced by thҽ abilities of Sergio Gomez.
With City looking to add a traditional left-back to thҽir ranks for months, it is believed that thҽy would open to a cut-price deal for thҽ Dutchman.
However, thҽ report states that sources close to Chelsea believe that a deal will be struck as talks are expected to continue over thҽ next couple of weeks and months.
If the Blues fail to tie Maatsen down to a new deal, however, we could see Man City come in for him when the transfer window re-opens in January.
