Transfer agreement ‘not in sight’: Leipzig officials suggests Josko Gvardiol isn’t actually signing for Man City

RB Leipzig boss Max Eberl and manager Marco Rose have both suggested that Josko Gvardiol won’t be joining Manchester City this summer after all.

Croatian centre-back Gvardiol was at the top of City’s transfer wish list heading into the summer window, and everything looked set for the transfer to be completed.

Claims elsewhere stated the Citizens have agreed a deal with the Bundesliga side and the defender had completed the first part of his medical with Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, over the last few days conflicting reports have emerged, and the situation is at risk of descending into farce.

Leipzig manager Marco Rose has dismissed this and also hinted there’s no agreement in place with Manchester City.

“Joško is one of our players and as far as I know he will remain one of our players. I don’t know anything about a medical check, nothing about a first part and nothing about a second. I think if it was, I would know as head coach!” Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze quoted Rose as saying.

RB boss Max Eberl has today also dismissed this strongly that there’s no agreement in place with Manchester City.

“There is no agreement with Man City. Not even close,” Max Eberl told Sky Sports.

“The fact is Man City would like to have him. Currently we are still very far apart. The transfer of [Dominik] Szoboszlai has secured us financially. We don’t need the money. We would prefer Joško to stay…”

It has been suggested that tensions between Leipzig and City have developed after news of an initial agreement was leaked.

Hinze’s colleague at Sky, Florian Plettenberg, states the centre-back is training with the club because there’s ‘no agreement’ for his transfer at the moment.

Sources have told Plettenberg that an ‘agreement is not in sight’ between the German club and Manchester City.

He adds that if the 21-year-old had a medical with the Premier League winners, it was done without his employer’s permission.

Leipzig want €100m fixed fee plus ‘realistic’ bonuses to sell the Croatia international. If not, the journalist adds it’s ‘not excluded’ for the player to continue at the club for one more season.
