‘This might prove very dangerous’, ‘Bernardo MUST stay’ – Man City fans react as £200k-a-week star ‘closing in on switch to Al-Ahli’

Manchester City attacker Riyad Mahrez is reportedly closing in on a move to Al-Ahli, having now come to an agreement with the Saudi Arabian outfit over personal terms.

The 32-year-old has been with the Citizens since 2018, representing the club on 236 occasions in all competitions, scoring 78 goals and registering 59 assists in the process.

Mahrez was again an important player for Man City last term, making 47 appearances, scoring 15 goals and registering 13 assists, but he found it difficult to secure starts in the latter stages of the Champions League and was an unused substitute in the final against Inter Milan.

The Algeria international, who earns £200,000 per week, has another two years left to run on his contract in Manchester, and Man City are believed to be keen to keep hold of him this summer.

However, the speculation linking the forward with a move to Saudi Arabia has gathered pace in recent days, with Mahrez capable of commanding an enormous salary in the Saudi Pro League.

The Algerian international had earlier clarified his intention of leaving City this summer and the player has now reportedly agreed personal terms with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

While deal is yet to be finalised, the two clubs are set to hold talks in the next 24 to 48 hours over Mahrez’s transfer, reports journalist Ben Jacobs.

Al-Ahli are reportedly preparing a £30 million ($39m) bid for the player and will offer him salary of £25m-per-year ($32m).

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@StinkyBacon: “Wtf is going on! Mahrez, Gundo, Walker and possibly silva are leaving and all we’ve signed is kovavic. Praying we sign replacements.”

@antarctc: “We are truly doomed next season, I will forever miss you Riyad”

@TitoSbakery: “We’re letting too many dressing room leaders this might prove very dangerous”

@harryjones_1706: “This better mean a new winger is coming”

@ditamcfc: “We need replacement.”

@Mixer_Playz44: “If Mahrez goes, then Bernardo MUST stay..”

@SilkyCyrus_74: “This one hurts as well. We need to start replacing players with serious quality now. Season starts in 27 days and we’ve lost gundo and Mahrez. Laporte and Bernardo are heavily rumoured to be going as well. We’ve only signed kovacic. We need quality signings to come in now”
