Manchester City preparing to offer treble-winning star new two-year deal and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are reportedly willing to offer Kyle Walker a new two-year contract amid interest from Bayern Munich.

This time last year the idea of Walker leaving City seemed unthinkable, such was the key role he played in multiple Premier League winning sides.

However, after the World Cup the 33-year-old lost his place in City’s starting XI, with just 31 starts last season, a joint-lowest total since the England international moved to East Manchester from Tottenham in 2017 for an initial £45 million.

Pep Guardiola said the right-back, who has made 254 appearances and won 14 trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium to date, was not able to invert into midfield as he’d like.

The 33 year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current contract, and as a result is one of several senior Manchester City players linked with a potential summer exit following the treble triumph.

Despite interest, particularly from Bavaria, Manchester City currently have no desire to sell the full-back this summer, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph reveal that the Blues are willing to take the unusual step of offering Walker a new two-year deal, in an attempt to counteract interest from elsewhere.

City are ‘open’ to discussing a new two-year contract with the 33 year-old, although there has been ‘no indication’ from Walker on where he sees his immediate future.

ElsewҺeгe, Manchester City have made indications to local media over their stance on Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme, amid transfer talk from Spain.

It had been reported earlier this week that Manchester City were ‘determined’ to secure the signature of the Spanish youth international, with a first proposal having already been made, but swiftly rejected by the La Liga giants.

However, despite developments on the claim, Manchester City have now seemingly briefed local media on their stance with regards to the youngster, who spent last season on-loan at Girona.

According to the understanding of BBC Radio Manchester’s Mike Minay, there is no interest from Manchester City in signing Rodrigo Riquelme this summer.

A similar line from the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski has been provided too, with it being stated that reports of a bid for Atletico Madrid’s winger are wide of the mark.

Manchester City are understood to be in the market for a winger this summer, but on the search for a player with a similar profile to Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez, as opposed to former wide-men such as Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.
