Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona could Propose Frenkie De Jong in a swap deal involving long-term target Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola’s side are in the market for a central midfielder due to Ilkay Gundogan’s exit. The Sun reports that Manchester City are keen on signing Frenkie de Jong, having missed out on Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The Netherlands international was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, but the Red Devils were unsuccessful in their pursuit of him, with the midfielder saying on multiple occasions that he wanted to remain at Camp Nou.

Man United are believed to be keeping a close eye on the 26-year-old’s situation at Camp Nou in the event that he becomes available for transfer this summer. But City may have more luck in convincing him as Guardiola weighs up whether or not to make a bid.

As per the The Sun, City are considering testing Barca’s resolve by possibly lodging a £90 million ($114 million) bid for De Jong, which is the price they were prepared to pay for Declan Rice until the England international joined Premier League rivals Arsenal instead.

Barcelona are said to be keen to keep hold of De Jong but would likely consider big offers due to their financial situation, with the Catalan outfit under pressure to make some first-team sales.

According to Forbes, Barca could cut to the chase and propose a Silva-plus-cash part exchange deal for De Jong with City.

Barcelona remain keen to land the Portugal international after failing with bids to sign him last summer and during the January transfer window.

This might be straightforward to pull off considering Silva’s desire to move on after six years at the Etihad, City’s interest in De Jong, and also Mendes’ influence.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.

@Prime2799: “Not a chance we’re going to swap Bernardo.”

@ClaireMulcahy17: “No thanks, Bernardo is a far better player and is on 150k a week.”

@Faisalrahmanka: “That would be a robbery of Bernado by Barca.”

@Emerald_mf: “NO!!! De Jong for Cancelo”

@Brianseo9: “Give Cancelo instead”

@LukeMiles04: “I’d offer Cancelo plus money before considering Bernardo”

@Mustaine_szn: “If he’s definitely leaving then W but I’d rather keep Bernardo.”

@FPL_JD: “If we’re going to lose Bernardo anyway then I’d love to get Frenkie out of the deal but I’d rather just keep Bernardo. It causes us so many problems losing him both in midfield & especially the RW position. We’d likely just see Foden RW & a RW signing if Frenkie came in.”
