Bayern Munich make transfer decision on Joao Cancelo and more Man City transfer rumours

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Joao Cancelo will return to Manchester City this summer, opting against an immediate transfer following his loan spell.

Cancelo played 21 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich, scoring one and creating six, following his six-month loan spell from City.

But it was reported back in April that the Rekordmeister were unwilling to activate the purchase option, which was a reported €70m.

It was suggested that Bayern would try to negotiate a lower figure but in the end, decided to pursue other targets.

He featured as a second-half substitute in the first leg at the Etihad where he was heavily booed by some sections of the home crowd. His future at City remains unclear, having struggled for form before his new year departure.

Cancelo – who up that point had played the most minutes out of any City defender – was concerned about the amount of game time he was receiving after the World Cup as Nathan Ake usurped his spot for a period.

ElsewҺeгe, Manchester City have continued to press ahead with preparations for the new season despite opting out of a move for key target Declan Rice.

After Fabrizio Romano confirms Man City have now turned their attention to Gabri Veiga, Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly held talks with the agent of the Celta Vigo midfielder over a potential transfer move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City, as well as Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United have spoken to Veiga’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to express their interest in signing the 21-year-old.

The report also adds that these clubs have indicated to Mendes that they would be willing to meet the €40m (£34m) release clause in the player’s current contract at Celta in a one up-front payment or even pay extra in paid instalments.

After working his way through the youth ranks at the Spanish club, the midfielder has gone on to make 55 senior appearances for Celta, with all 11 of the goals he has scored across those appearances coming throughout the previous La Liga campaign.
