Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Burnley have made contact over a loan for Sergio Gomez.
The 22-year-old left-back joined Manchester City on a four-year deal worth a reported fee of £11m from Belgian side Anderlecht last summer.
Gomez played a bit part role in the Cityzens’ recently concluded season, making 23 outings in all competitions.
This summer, Vincent Kompany’s freshly promoted Burnley are trying to strengthen their squad to avoid the drop. Burnley are in the transfer market for a left-back and they have identified Gomez as a perfect fit.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Burnley have made contact with Manchester City for Sergio Gomez but the player would prefer to stay with the Premier League champions over a loan move.
In a recent Twitter post, journalist Sacha Tavolieri said: “#BurnleyFC again! Contacts took place in order to try a loan move for Sergio #Gomez as the #Clarets coach likes #ManCity‘s left back but for the moment, the Spanish defender prefers to stay & impress Pep during preparation to improve his situation at #MCFC. #twitterclarets.”
It remains to be seen whether Burnley will be able to convince Gomez to make a move to Turf Moor or they will shift their attention to other targets.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@rmhoek: “Good fighting spirit, but a loan to Burnley would be perfect for him.”
@mattyryanmcfc: “He needs this loan move.”
@Sundayokeme1: “Love the mentality”
@RealTalkMCFC: “He should take it… get some more minutes in Premier League and then we’ll see next summer”
@farai_mugwati: “It will be a good move for Sergio, hopefully he will nail down a position.His been playing a lot of multiple positions in his career.”
@DanO_McG: “Should take the loan, hard to imagine him getting much playing time at all at City.”
@mikepriestley13: “I think it might be best to go out on loan to another premier league team where he would get games if he impress’s he could come back. He’s only 22 not even in his prime yet so possibly could come back..”
@CitySZN: “A loan to a PL club with a manager he has worked with already to get proper minutes could be an insanely good opportunity for his development. I don’t mind him wanting to see after pre-season Pep’s thoughts before deciding but it’s a great option for him. He has potential”
