Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Declan Rice after Arsenal submitted a club-record £105 million bid for him, reports the Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan.
It is understood the Gunners made their latest offer for the 24-year-old England international on Tuesday after two previous approaches were rebuffed by the Hammers.
It was also reported City had a bid totalling £90m knocked back and the treble winners have now decided not to match or try to better Arsenal’s proposition.
Pep Guardiola wants to replace Ilkay Gundogan and he sees the 24-year-old England international as the perfect man for the job despite having Rodri and recently signing Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.
However, Man City do not appear willing to match the latest offer from Arsenal, which would be good news for the North London club as they look to bolster their squad after painfully missing out on the title last term.
It is believed the Gunners have offered £100m and a further £5m in potential add-ons. It would make Rice the most expensive British player of all time and eclipses Arsenal’s previous record transfer.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@aXtrips: “Great decision, now just sign Gvardiol, a winger and a midfilder if Bernardo leave and we are set..”
@BlossomsMinds: “This news is better than actually signing Declan Rice..”
@McfcChriss: “Best news for today.”
@LifeOfNapaul: “He isn’t worth the money tbh, Arsenal can have him.”
@majorramblings: “Thank god. Honestly, £105m is insane if we are being truthful.”
@tech_hashiraa: “Best news, now let’s go for our Frenkie or Valverde.”
@Samantha8309122: “Good..This reminds me of Cucurella and we ended up getting Akanji.”
