Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has highlighted the three games that he believes could decide the Premier League title after his side defeated Arsenal 4-1 on Wednesday evening.
City headed into the all-important clash knowing three points would hand them a significant advantage heading into the final stretch of the campaign, starting the night five points behind the Gunners, with two games in hand.
It is fair to say that Wednesday night’s game could prove to be the deciding factor in this season’s title race.
Following Manchester City’s win against Arteta’s side, it now means that the maximum number of points they can earn is 94, while Arsenal can only reach 90.
If both teams win their remaining fixtures following Wednesday’s clash, City will win the title on the final home game of the season against Brighton on May 24. That is providing City win all of their remaining games.
While Guardiola and previously Stones and De Bruyne were keen to play down claims that they had already won the title with victory at the Etihad, the Spaniard has stated that Manchester City’s next three games in the league could prove pivotal against Fulham, West Ham and Leeds.
“I know the next three games are really important,” Guardiola told BT Sport. “Fulham on Sunday and what Marco Silva has done this season is unbelievable, coming from the Championship and at their stadium especially. After then two games against West Ham and Leeds.
“Arsenal they are two points in front of us, I don’t think so – for example going to Brighton [City’s last game of the league season] and then win. We will take it game by game.”
After City’s triple-header next against Fulham, West Ham and Leeds they will battle Real Madrid over the space of one week – with a trip to Everton in between.
They then host Frank Lampard’s Chelsea before two away trips to Brentford and then Brighton to end the season as while Guardiola and City will not take anything for granted, they have taken a huge step closer to lifting the title next month.
