Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have reignited their interest in Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Wirtz, who is valued at £75 million by Transfermarkt, has been impressive for the Bundesliga outfit and is widely regarded as one of European football’s brightest prospects.

The Leverkusen man missed the first half of the season through injury, but since returning to action after the World Cup break, he has scored four goals and provided eight assists in 17 competitive appearances.

The youngster, who is expected to be in Thursday’s starting lineup for the second leg of Leverkusen’s Europa League quarter-final, is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2027.

90min reported last month that Pep Guardiola’s side have monitored the 19-year-old for a while, and the Blues could be interested in a move for the midfielder in the summer.

According to the latest from global transfer expert Ekrem KONUR, Manchester City are one of a number of sides to have become enchanted by Wirtz and they are regularly keeping tabs on his performances in Germany.

With sides such as Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid all keen on the attacking midfielder, it is expected that City could face a tough competition to convince him to move to the Etihad.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.

@blerkview_: “He’s the rightful player for us 💙”

@OT_7776: “Let’s stop monitoring and get the books out…”

@OnlyMB04: “KDB replacement, I ll take him”

@AkshatMCFC_47: “OMG YES KDB REGEN”

@Faz_forward: “Please make this happen”

@tamjid_yashin: “He is the only KDB replacement.”

@CitehSide: “Keep him under the radar. He’s one of the candidates to replace KDB in the near future.”

@mjfromtheavenue: “The one signing I can get behind”

What would Wirtz offer Guardiola and City?

As Man City fans alludes to, Wirtz is one of the hottest prospects in European football and looks destined for a fruitful career in European football.

Should City stump up the cash for the talented teen, it’s likely they’ll have a player who is capable of dominating the Premier League for years to come.

When compared to other European starlets, Wirtz ranks highly, with the German averaging more assists per match than all of Jude Bellingham, Pedri, Jamal Musiala and Gavi (FBref).

What’s more, Wirtz is also an accomplished passer of the ball, as he currently averages over 50 passes and seven progressive passes each game.
