Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is stepping up their efforts to sign Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, with Pep Guardiola viewing the rumoured Tottenham target as the ‘perfect’ centre-back.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Citizens are very keen on the 23-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.
As per the report, the reigning Premier League champions have been following the San Siro star for the best part of two years, with this summer now being viewed as the ideal time for City to strike and secure Bastoni’s signature.
FC Inter News also state that Guardiola likes the characteristics of Bastoni, as he has the ‘exact technical qualities’ that the Spanish manager looks for in modern defenders.
City are far from alone in their interest to sign Bastoni, though, with Inter Live reporting that Tottenham are also big fans of the 23-year-old defender.
Both of PSG and Juventus have been linked, and FCIN confirm that both are targeting the €55m-rated Inter defender, but also that he would be unlikely to want a move to either.
It is stated that Bastoni has apparently asked his agent to give ‘absolute’ priority to negotiating a contract extension with Inter.
This situation is set to become clear in the summer, when it’ll be known whether the 23-year-old is renewing his contract or forcing Inter Milan to sell him and avoid losing him for free.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@Albyciteh1: “Hope this is true”
@magicalsilva21: “He’s a better option than Gvardiol and I’m not even joking.”
@2_btts: “Get him please”
@JakePritchardFC: “Give Laporte to Inter and we get Bastoni. Sounds like a good deal.”
@ClaireMulcahy17: “Laporte swap.”
@manciTRX: “Under Pep he is going to be a beast. Also, there are many young talent from Italy, and its better to start investing in Italian.”
