Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club has seemingly stepped up interest in Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga this week following indirect talks with the player,
The 20-year-old is enjoying his first full season in the Spanish outfit’s senior squad. He has made 25 appearances in the league for Carlos Carvalhal’s team, scoring nine goals and providing three assists.
Celta Vigo outfit have a tough task on their hands to keep a hold of Celta Vigo beyond the current campaign. That is because the promising midfielder has a meagre £35 million release clause.
Carlos Mourino, the president of the Abanca-Balaídos side, has already accepted that keeping Veiga.
At least four Premier League teams are interested in the Spain international. La Liga giants Real Madrid are also keen on acquiring the youngster’s services.
As recently as on Wednesday, it was claimed that Veiga himself was keener on a transfer to the Gunners than Manchester City, due to the London factor and the club’s encouraging track record with youngsters.
Pep Guardiola is looking to bolster his squad’s engine room. At the moment, the futures of midfielders Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva at the Etihad Stadium side are uncertain.
Spanish outlet Marca reported recently that Manchester City are ready to pip Real Madrid and other interested clubs in the chase for Gabri Veiga, with Pep Guardiola’s side readying a mega offer for the midfielder.
Now, in a significant development, a report from Spain has revealed that a meeting has now taken place between the brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Gabri Veiga’s sister to convey interest from the Premier League champions.
According to Onda Cero’s Edu Pidal, Pep Guardiola’s brother Pere held a meeting with Gabri Veiga’s sister on Wednesday, as she currently manages his affairs following the split with his former agency, Intermedia Sport Player.
It is stated that Pere pitched the prospect about the wonderkid joining his agency, while telling her about Manchester City’s interest.
Further details claim that Veiga left Intermedia Sports Player [Denis Suarez’s agency] and while super-agent Pini Zahavi and the famous ‘You First’ agency [which represents the Alacantara brothers] tried to get him to sign on the dotted line, it is Guardiola’s agency that seems the likeliest to win the battle.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
