Chelsea are reportedly preparing to offer Ben Chilwell a new contract in order to fend off mounting interest from Manchester City.
The 26-year-old left-back will soon enter the final two years of his current contract and Chelsea are apparently keen to try and tie him down to a longer deal to ward off interest.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have been long-term admirers of the attack-minded full-back and could attempt to lure Chilwell north if his future at Stamford Bridge was to remain in doubt.
Wanting to avoid a situation where the full-back could leave the club for free, US billionaire owner Todd Boehly is understandably preparing to offer the 26-year-old an extended deal extend.
According to a recent report from The Athletic, the Blues’ number 21 will be offered an extended deal after impressing since joining from Leicester City in 2020.
Chilwell has been one of Chelsea’s stars this campaign despite it being a troublesome year for the club who suffered their 11th league defeat of the season away to Wolves at the weekend.
Since arriving from Leicester City three years ago, Chilwell, who also has 18 senior international caps to his name, has gone on to score nine goals in 80 matches, in all competitions.
