‘Absolutely amazing’ – Man City fans discuss ‘unreal’ star’s display after win over Arsenal

Manchester City supporters have reacted on Twitter to Manuel Akanji’s performance for Arsenal on Wednesday night – and were impressed.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran out 4-1 winners at the Etihad Stadium. It was a magnificent display from City, with Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne running the show.

The pair combined twice in the game, with Haaland setting up the Belgian for both his goals.John Stones also got on the scoresheet just before half-time.

Haaland was unplayable against the Gunners, and just before the end of the game he got the goal he thoroughly deserved. That was goal number 49 of an incredible season for the Norwegian striker.

Every single player for City last night was fantastic but one man many supporters have been giving credit to since last night’s game is Akanji.

The Switzerland international was deployed on the left of the defence to cover for the injured Nathan Ake. Many presumed it would be Aymeric Laporte, but it was Akanji who shifted over.

The decision to deploy Akanji at left-back for the first time was not natural. Undoubtedly, it helped City to dominate the match.

Even Guardiola acknowledged that it was a difficult decision to omit Laporte, praising the player’s passing ability. “I have a lot of doubts because the position is for Aymer,” he said in the press conference afterwards. “Aymer is our best player in the build-up by far.”

Akanji was faultless for City and completely locked down Bukayo Saka. The 27-year-old has proven to be a magnificent signing for City at just £15 million from Borussia Dortmund.

City supporters reacted to Akanji’s performance on Twitter and many were impressed with what they saw.

@donniebrascoh: “Akanji was superb last night. Held his ground against Saka. Not one mistake and I loved the way he drove forward at times. What a squad we have!”

@wetheone01: “Remember it’s his first season and he adjusted to pep system immediately now pep can’t bench him, let’s not forget he only cost us 15 mil”

@NazmulInsol: “The fan base needs to accept he’s become almost undroppable. What a player.”

@Moemahmud: “He is the definition of “bargain signing of the century. ” What an incredible player. He hacked the first season acclimation process as well!”

@mcfcshah: “We’re actually better with akanji at LB, Walker at RB and stones & Dias in the middle. Better than any other back 4.”
