‘£55m for two players?’, ‘This is beyond disrespectful’ – Man City fans react as report claims Aston Villa are plotting bid for Star duo

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Aston Villa are lining up a double bid for Manchester City duo Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker during this summer’s transfer window.

Phillips only joined the Citizens from Leeds United last summer, but the 27-year-old has struggled for action during the 2022-23 campaign, making just 15 appearances in all competitions.

All seven of the midfielder’s Premier League appearances this season have come off the bench, with his only two starts for the club in 2022-23 coming in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

Phillips missed a lot of matches earlier this season with a shoulder injury, but he has been available since last November and has still struggled to secure action.

It seems Aston Villa are now ready to tempt Kalvin Phillips into a transfer a year after he joined the Premier League champions.

According to Football Insider, Villa are keen to sign the England international in the upcoming market, while Walker is also wanted by Unai Emery’s side in a double deal that could be worth £55m.

Walker only has a contract with the Premier League champions until the summer of 2024, and there is currently speculation surrounding his future at the Etihad Stadium.

The 32-year-old has only made 26 appearances for the Citizens this season, with the defender no longer considered to be an automatic starter for the club.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.

@KarpyKay: “55 for two players….this is joke.”

@KrarupRud: “Thats not enough, we shouldnt even sell Walker”

@SIDNEY93578809: “For both that feels like buy one get one free no way”

@mani434raju: “This should be bull shit surely.. Kalvin will come good next season for sure”

@SheltonWicks: “One injury plagued season for Kalvin Phillips is not enough for us to move him on from him in my opinion. He’s shown he is a fantastic player when he is healthy. It’s not rare for players to take time to warm up to the system either, similar to Grealish.”

@PhillyHarriis: “Walker should be allowed to stay and earn a new contract. Trust, we will struggle to replace him if we do adopt a flat back 4 again in the future.”

@christian_radoi: “This is beyond disrespectful to Kyle Walker. One of if not our greatest right backs in the past 15 years. £40+ for Phillips alone and then at least that same amount for Walker as well. And we shouldn’t even part ways with him yet. You think Pep will play 3241 forever? Cmon…”
