Manchester City do not believe the injury sustained by Erling Haaland on international duty with Norway is serious.
The Premier League top scorer is facing a race to be fit for City’s clash with Liverpool on Saturday, April 1 after being ruled out of Norway’s two fixtures due to a groin problem.
However, Pep Guardiola could still be able to select his star striker for the home clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side in what is a must-win game for both sides.
City are planning to test Haaland’s injury further upon his return to Manchester, but have been encouraged by the striker leaving international duty as a precaution rather than playing and making the injury worse.
Paul Hirst in The Times reports that City sources have deemed Haaland’s groin issue as ‘not serious’ and described the striker’s withdrawal from the national team as ‘precautionary’, although it is also reported that the club’s medical staff are currently unsure whether the player will be available for the game against Liverpool on April 1st after the international break.
Hirst writes that the 22-year-old will undergo further tests at the club to establish how long he will be out upon his return to Manchester.
