Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are interested in Bruno Guimaraes and may offer Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle United as part of a bid.
Since his £45million move from Leeds United last summer, the former Leeds star has endured an injury-plagued start to his career at the Etihad, after failing to start a single game in the Premier League this season.
Phillips has shown quality while playing for Leeds in the past and has also earned himself a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad thanks to his performances.
He has spent a large majority of the season so far recovering from a shoulder injury and playing second fiddle to first-choice Rodri, but he has still not proven himself in the short cameos Pep Guardiola has given him.
The Premier League champions are expected to have undergo a major transformation of their first-team squad this summer, however it is reported that deciding on the future of Phillips is a ‘crucial step’ to understand what is going to happen in the coming window.
According to The Sunday Mirror, Man City are willing to offer £80m plus out-of-favour midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle to seal a summer deal for Guimaraes.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
I’d take that, kinda lost hope in kalvin especially if he can even be arsed to get a game against Burnley https://t.co/JI8n1e0S44

@Waporte123: “Lol no way this will happen”
@Reyna6MCFC: “That’s a damn lie Lmao kalvin ain’t going nowhere”
@DunyaFelix: “It’s too rushy to judge Kalvin Philips. The deeper role ain’t easy in Peps style of play. Rodri struggled when he joined from Atletico but finally he’s among top CDM in EPL..”
@iphrexx: “Phillips might improve next season, who knows.”
@AkeCity6: “Philips has’nt played that much, next season he will show his true colors”
