European giants eye signing Man City star in 2024 as they activate ‘Operation Haaland’

Real Madrid are preparing ‘Operation Haaland’, which will see the Spanish giants make the Norwegian wunderkind a priority signing for 2024, according to reports.

The reigning European champions were interested in securing Haaland’s services before he joined Manchester City in a £51m move last summer.

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, Haaland has racked up 42 goals and provided five assists in 37 competitive appearances.

With 28 of those goals taking place in the Premier League, Haaland is comfortably the highest scorer in the top flight this season.

Although the Norway international joined Man City less than a year ago, he is already being linked with a move away from the Citizens.

According to AS, Real Madrid are planning a bid for Haaland next year and are confident that they can secure his services.

The report states that Haaland has a release clause between €220m (£194m) and €240m (£212m) which activates every year from 2024 until his Man City deal ends in 2027.

However, a conflicting report previously claimed that such a clause no longer exists in the Norwegian’s contract.

Los Blancos supposedly view Haaland as a replacement for Karim Benzema. The La Liga giants will offer the 35-year-old a one-year deal that will take him up to 2024 when Real Madrid will commence ‘Operation Haaland’.

Real Madrid are looking to build a Galacticos-type forward line consisting of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Haaland.

With Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Eden Hazard set to leave the club by 2024, at least €50m (£44m) in wages could be freed up to meet Haaland and Mbappe’s wage demands.

The Spanish side also believe that a move for Haaland is plausible even if Pep Guardiola is still Man City manager.

Haaland recently pulled out of Norway’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Spain and Georgia due to an injury issue.

Guardiola will be hoping that his prolific striker can recover in time for the important Premier League clash against Liverpool on April 1.
