Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Tottenham Hotspur have recently made an enquiry for Aymeric Laporte as they look to sign a new centre-back.
The 28 year-old has had a very stop-start campaign up until this point for Manchester City, registering just 16 appearances across all competitions under Pep Guardiola, and contributing one assist in the process.
Knee surgery last summer meant the Spain international was absent for the opening matches of the 2022/23 season, while the World Cup break in the middle of the campaign, as well as a recent bout with illness, has seen Aymeric Laporte struggle for consistent game time.
Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, and John Stones have all played more minutes than the Spaniard.
It now appears as though Aymeric Laporte could actively go in search of a new club this summer, in an attempt to hold down a permanent spot as a central defender in the starting XI of a top European side.
According to an exclusive by journalist Steve Kay for Football Transfers, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the Manchester City star.
It is not yet clear however, whether they plan to make a bid for the 28-year-old. However, It’s been claimed that Spurs believe the Spain International could be available for as little as £30m.
Laporte will not come cheap. Manchester City spent £57 million to sign him from Athletic in 2018.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@ClaireMulcahy17: “😂30m?, starting Spanish CB with alot of time left on his contract ….no chance”
@tommynnutt: “30?? You’re joking. He’s a 50-60m player minimum. Starting Spanish CB. Best ball playing CB in the best league in the world. Quick. Reliable. Determined. Low wage cost..”
@MCFCDubs: “Absolute JOKE of a club..”
@mancity_talk: “No chance of this happening.”
@Damien_Coates: “Absolute scandal if we let him leave for that amount, he should be at least double that”
@CityLad95: “I hope Txiki goes to Levy and demands £70m and doesnt budge an inch.”
@makena_mati: “No way we should do business with Spurs”
@armxnoMCFC: “Give them hell. Just put the price tag for £150m”
@strangeronnet9: “we should never sell a player to Spurs for less than 100m, no matter who that player is.
@5shents: “No disrespect to Tottenham but why would he go there?.”
@rodney_wawire: “After what Zinny and Gabby’s transfer did to Arsenal, I hope we never make the same mistake of selling our players to any Premier League team”
