Manchester City have seemingly pulled out of the race to sign James Maddison in the summer, as per a new report by the Telegraph journalist James Ducker.
Last week, The Mail revealed that Man City were lining up a summer bid for long term Newcastle United target James Maddison and even reportedly put in a deadline day loan bid to secure his services.
However, The Telegraph seem to have very different information on the 26-year-old, stating that Pep Guardiola’s side have played down suggestions he could arrive at the Etihad.
The same report has also mentioned that while City plan to go big in the window after the end of the season, their recent Premier League charges have complicated matters without a doubt.
However, it seems as if the internal decision taken by Man City not to pursue James Maddison has no correlation with these allegations. Their primary focus appears to be on signing Jude Bellingham..
Talk of Man City distancing themselves from Maddison comes on the same day that it was reported that Newcastle will make a fresh move for him this summer.
The Magpies had two bids of £35m and £40m rejected last summer after failing to meet Leicester’s £60m valuation.
Newcastle made another enquiry about the England international last month, but Leicester were not willing to part ways with one of their prized assets in the middle of the season.
Having entered the final 18 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium, his future at the club remains uncertain.
With a new Leicester contract yet to be agreed, the Northern Echo are reporting that Newcastle are set to renew their pursuit of Maddison in the summer transfer window.
Man City exiting the conversation is certainly a boost for Newcastle, as a move to the Eithad to work with Pep Guardiola would have been massively appealing.
