I’m sorry – Pep Guardiola’s incredible excuse for Man City’s defeat to Tottenham

Pep Guardiola had a rather incredible excuse for Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game as City’s chances of defending their Premier League title took a hit, remaining five points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

There is still a long way to go, with just 21 games played, but the reigning champions look a long way from their brilliant best and struggled to create clear chances against a solid Spurs side.

Guardiola is also clearly not in the finest of moods as he gave a slightly strange answer when asked if he felt Kane was inspired to play well against his side.

The Spaniard did not mention the England captain, but praised his own team and bemoaned how far they had to travel to face Spurs this weekend.

‘We are an attractive team. Our teams are always good, we try to go forward and be generous for our fans,’ Guardiola said in a press conference after the question about Kane.

‘Sometimes it doesn’t work, but I cannot complain much. When you win four Premier Leagues in five years we cannot complain much about what we have done and the way we have done it.

‘We try to continue to do it and improve the things that will help us in the future.

‘But we go back to Manchester. Coming to London is like going to, I don’t know, northern Europe. It is 4 hours 20 minutes, 4 hours and a half to get to a hotel.

‘It’s so exhausting to come to London, I’m sorry. We need to come back to Manchester and prepare the game against Aston Villa.’
