Arsenal and Premier League managerial legend Arsene Wenger has offered his honest take on Manchester City’s charges issued by the English top-flight last week.
City were hit with 115 charges of relating to FFP breaches dating back to 2009 last Monday but have strongly denied any wrongdoing.
Manager Pep Guardiola launched a passionate defence of his club ahead of Sunday’s match with Aston Villa and is confident City will prove their innocence.
Possible sanctions have been mooted across social media since the release of the charges, including the possibility of either Manchester City losing their status as a Premier League football team entirely, or previous title crowns being stripped from them.
Speaking to beIN Sports on Monday evening, Arsene Wenger was asked if he felt there was a chance City could lose their Premier League status, he said: Very small one. I think so.
“I believe at the moment I know quite well Khaldoon (Al Mubarak – Manchester City chairman) and I think he’s an intelligent man and an honest man so I was quite surprised by the charges they face so let’s see the outcome.”
Arsene Wenger continued, “If they are guilty, then they will face penalties. I don’t know what they will be.”
These Wenger’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.

@MattOMaraaa: That might be the nicest thing he’s ever said about us”
@MUHARABI10: “Media won’t post this though, they will post him joking about us taking all his players.”
@Cityzen_Drew: “Wengers U-turn is a decade too late. He did a lot of damage and it’s quite painful to talk to Arsenal fans nowadays due to the talking points Wenger indoctrinated them with.”
