Chelsea make decision over Mason Mount sale with Man City interested

Premier League rival Chelsea will put Mason Mount up for ‘sale’ in the upcoming transfer window amidst interest from Manchester City, according to The Athletic.

The England international made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side. After a few impressive loan spells, it was Frank Lampard who gave the playmaker his first-team break with the Blues, having managed him at Derby County.

Over the years, the England international has developed into a fine player. However, in the last few months, he has been underwhelming for the West London club.

Rumours have been circling around the 24-year old midfielder that he had been attracting suitors with there being no progress with deal extension talks.

Pep Guardiola’s side are said to be one of several clubs’monitoring’ the situation at Stamford Bridge ahead of a potential approach come June, with the 24-year-old set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal talks stalling over an extension.

According to The Athletic, several meetings between player and club have produced little in terms progression and at least one rejection from Mount himself as he isn’t wanting to pen the kind of long-term deals that have seen Mykhaylo Mudry and Enzo Fernandez tied down for eight-and-a-half-years.

As per the report, Should nothing be agreed upon in the summer, Chelsea will look to sell Mount because he will have just 12 months left on his current deal. His admirers are Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Juventus.

Mount will hope that his form improves considerably if he wants a move to a top side, with the player in what many feel is his worst run of form since he began his senior team journey.

While he is a quality player, it will evidently be difficult for him to get a regular starting berth at the Etihad side. However, it will be interesting to see whether Pep Guardiola’s side will pursue the 24-year-old’s signature if he is made available.
