Manchester City fans have reacted to news that defender Aymeric Laporte is suffering from a ‘lower back injury’.

Pep Guardiola’s side will compete in three different competitions before the end of January, with Guardiola’s men in EFL Cup, Premier League and FA Cup action.

The Blues face a hectic schedule, which starts against Chelsea in the Premier League on January 4th, before taking on the Blues again just days later at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup third round.

The double-header against Chelsea will then be followed by a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash on the South Coast against Southampton, before they travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Premier League.

However, ahead of a tremendous run of fixtures, Pep Guardiola will have to contend with a further injury to his back line, as Aymeric Laporte joins fellow central defender Ruben Dias on treatment table.

According to Premier Injuries, Aymeric Laporte is suffering from a ‘lower back injury’, joining Ruben Dias who is expected to be ruled out for a few more weeks, as the Portugal international continues to recover from a muscular problem during his final game of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar – a defeat to Morocco at the quarter-final stage.

As per the report, the severity of the problem is understood to be low and relatively unconcerning – with the centre-back holding some chance of returning to the squad against Chelsea on Thursday night.

Some Man City fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to news about injury to Laporte.

@fusk4rN: How is it that our defenders are always injured this year.

@tkntsh: what’s up with our injuries this season.

@ManCityTalk98: It’s great that we have Akanji. He is going to be pivotal.

@MrLuciferous: We’ve got Stones, Ake and Akanji, so no worries. I honestly think Ake is our best defender now, man’s upgraded to the next level during the world cup.

@Noroftheai: Buying Akanji in the summer turning out to be a wise decision

@KonigFred_: We’re down bad. We desperately need Dias back

@mcfcdavid_27: we really need Dias back to lead the defence
