Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola took a strange dig at the club’s fans for the way they were “silent” for the first half of Thursday night’s 4-2 win over Tottenham.

Man City found themselves 2-0 down against Spurs after a frantic end to the first half which saw Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal score in the final minutes of the opening period.

The surprise double clearly stunned Man City fans and, possibly still frustrated by defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, they showed their disappointment.

Guardiola will have wanted the home fans to motivate his players after the half-time whistle while staring at a mountain to climb.

Guardiola’s side came flying out the blocks after the break as Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland had the home side level by the 55th minute. And the comeback was complete swiftly and efficiently when Riyad Mahrez fired past Hugo Lloris’ near post just past the hour.

Spurs pressed to find a third goal of their own but were left wanting when the Algerian raced through again on 89 minutes, capitalising on Clement Lenglet’s mistake before dinking a lovely finish into the net.

Guardiola wasn’t happy with Manchester City’s players or fans despite the comeback win and After full-time, he made his discontent with the fans known.

He said: “[We were lacking in] guts, passion, fire, desire to win from minute one. The same with the fans. They were silent for 45 minutes. I want my fans back.”
