Football legend Ronaldo has stated that Brazil wanted to hire the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss as manager but he preferred to stay with Man City instead.
Guardiola penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year that will see him stay at the club until 2025. Though Brazil have not been deterred by that and they consider him the ‘best coach in the world’.
Brazil flew out to Qatar as favourites for the competition only to be dumped out at the quarter-final stages by Croatia on penalties, with the Selecao now on the hunt for a new manager to lead the likes of Vinicius Junior and Gabriel Martinelli into a new era.
According to SPORT, the Confederacao Brasileira de Futbol (CFB) are set to contact Guardiola imminently to establish what his future plans are.
President Ednaldo Rodrigues is responsible for appointing Tite’s successor and is intent on hearing first-hand whether he will be able to turn to the City manager at the end of the season.
Indeed, the possibility of Brazil one day appointing Guardiola feels likely. However, the time is now simply not right for the former Bayern Munich manager, with Ronaldo revealing that talks took place with the City boss’ coaching staff as well as the Catalan himself.
As quoted by Catalan media, Ronaldo said: “There was interest in Guardiola, it was discussed with Guardiola’s coaching staff, but he preferred to renew the contract with Manchester City. It might be difficult for the CBF to reach an agreement, he is the highest-paid coach in the world.”
These Ronaldo’s comments shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
