Report: Man City have offered Pep Guardiola-favourite a new £40million contract to keep him at the Etihad

Manchester City have reportedly offered Bernardo Silva a new contract to keep him at the club after securing Pep Guardiola to a new deal.

Silva was one of Barcelona’s top targets in the summer, as he was a favourite for Xavi. The Barça coach, after all, wanted the Portuguese international to operate as the interior midfielder alongside Pedri this season, with Sergio Busquets operating as the number six.

However, the move did not materialise as Barcelona could not conjure up Man City’s desired valuation for the player. And according to this recent report, it appears Barça’s chances of signing Silva could dwindle further following Pep Guardiola’s contract extension at Man City.

According to Football Insider, City have no intention of letting Silva go mid-season and have instead offered a new long-term deal that includes a pay hike.

The report claims that the whole package is believed to be worth more than £40million in total.

Silva’s current His current agreement, worth around £150,000-a-week, is due to expire in the summer of 2025.

Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to lose the Portuguese international, but has always said he will not keep any player who want to leave. The likelihood of a transfer away from the Etihad is slim, however.

Reports from Spain keep pushing a narrative that Barca will sign Silva, but they have failed so far. Until a bid is lodged that is anywhere near City’s valuation, there’s no chance of him leaving. And with the Spaniards in a lot of debt, it might not come.
