‘It would be an honour’ – ‘Electric’ World Cup-bound star names Man City as one dream transfer destination

PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo has admitted that it ‘would be an honour’ to play for Manchester City as speculation surrounding his future with the Eredivisie club continues.

Gakpo is a player who has been linked with a potential move to City in recent times and it is not hard to see why.

The Dutch international has been in stunning form this season and looks destined for a big move sooner rather than later.

Could his destination end up being Etihad? Well, the player certainly would be happy if that ended up being the case.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gakpo has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions for PSV this season. Those are remarkable numbers, especially for a left winger.

Thus, it would not come as a surprise if Real Madrid are keeping close eyes on the Dutchman, as many other clubs are expected to be as well. Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for him before they ended up signing Antony. If Gakpo continues performing like this, he won’t be at PSV for too much longer though.

As reported by GOAL, when talking about what club he would like to join, Gakpo told NOS:

“I think at the end of this season I will be ready to take that step. I feel like I was already that way at the start of this season, but after this season I’m even more ready to take that next step.”

“Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. It would be an honour to play there, but I also have to see what kind of team would suit me best.”

It is safe to say that someone like Gakpo would be a very interesting signing for Man City. The kind of output that he is producing right now is remarkable for a winger.

Also, Gakpo has every attribute that you can ask for, when looking for a future superstar. It is actually incredible that he has flown under the radar for so long and a top club have not made a move for him yet.

Hailed as an “electric” player by journalist Josh Bunting, Gakpo will be hoping to showcase his attacking talent for the Netherlands in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar having been included in Louis Van Gaal’s squad.

The Dutch international is still just 23 years of age as well and one would expect him to get even better with time. Thus, let’s see what the future holds for him. Is it a move to Man City? Only time shall tell.
