Pep Guardiola has hinted Erling Haaland may miss Manchester City’s league clash against Liverpool at this weekend.
The prolific striker was named on the bench and watched as City, reduced to 10 men after the sending off of Sergio Gomez, played out a goalless stalemate in the Danish capital on Tuesday.
It was assumed Haaland, who has scored 20 goals in just 13 appearances, was simply being held back ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool, but Guardiola hinted there could have been more to his selection decision.
In his post-match press conference, Guardiola admitted the striker was ‘so tired’ after the clash against Southampton on October 8th.
The Citizens will make a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the upcoming league clash. The Norway international’s availability remains a concern for the clash against the Reds.
When Norway’s TV2 asked Guardiola about Haaland’s absence against Copenhagen, he said: “He is so tired. He has some muscle disorders, and we didn’t want to take any chances.”
The Manchester City manager was further pressed whether his star will be fit on time to face Liverpool on Sunday.
“We will have to see tomorrow, I hope he will be ready,” Guardiola stressed.
Haaland has 20 goals and three assists from 13 matches and failed to score in the league only once. His absence could come as a major boost for Liverpool, who have won only two of their eight league games this term.
