The 2022 Ballon d’Or will be the 66th annual ceremony of the Ballon d’Or, presented by France Football, recognising the best footballers in the world in the 2021/22 season.

Premier League champions Manchester City received a total of six nominations at the awards this year, and now the players’ final rankings have been released on Monday.

Benzema may have won the prize at a glitzy awards ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, but how did Manchester City players on the shortlist such as Erling Haaland and Kevin De bruyne fare in the voting?

On the evening, Ederson was placed in 3rd for the Yachine Trophy. Perhaps Manchester City’s biggest prize however, came as they were crowned 2022 Club of the Year for the first time.

We break down the full list which saw five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo finish down in 20th.

Beginning in 25th place, Joao Cancelo.

An underwhelming signing as a right-back in 2019, Cancelo has developed into one of the best left-backs in the world, with his ability to drift inside and provide goals and assists that most midfielders would be proud of almost unmatched.

The Manchester City defender was equally ranked alongside five other professionals:

Moving on to Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden, and the Manchester City duo have been ranked in 22nd place.

22. Phil Foden – Manchester City

Despite having won four league titles before his 22nd birthday, it still feels like fans outside of England do not appreciate just how good Foden truly is, with the City star a potential Ballon d’Or winner of the future.

=22. Bernardo Silva – Manchester City

Bernardo Silva went from being on the cusp of leaving Man City to their most consistent performer within the space of a few weeks as they won yet another Premier League title.

The pair equally ranked alongside one other professional:

  • Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool

  • 21st – Harry Kane, Tottenham
  • 20th – Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus/Manchester United
  • 17th – Luis Diaz, FC Porto/Liverpool
  • 17th – Dusan Vlahovic, Fiorentina/Juventus
  • 17th – Casemiro, Real Madrid
  • 16th – Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool
  • 14th – Rafael Leao, AC Milan
  • 14th – Fabinho, Liverpool
  • 13th – Sebastien Haller, Ajax/Borussia Dortmund

The came another Manchester City ranking, as Riyad Mahrez was placed in 12th.

12. Riyad Mahrez – Manchester City

City’s top scorer in all competitions in 2021-22, Mahrez shrugged of Africa Cup of Nations embarrassment with Algeria to play a key role for Pep Guardiola’s side down the stretch.

  • 11th – Son Heung-Min, Tottenham

Erling Haaland then received his place, coming in at 10th in this year’s Ballon D’Or

10. Erling Haaland – Manchester City

Though injuries interrupted Haaland’s final season at Borussia Dortmund, he still managed almost a goal-a-game record in the Bundesliga before joining Man City over the summer.

  • 9th – Luka Modric, Real Madrid
  • 8th – Vinicius Jr, Real Madrid
  • 7th – Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid
  • 6th – Kylian Mbappe, PSG
  • 5th – Mohamed Salah, Liverpool
  • 4th – Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich/Barcelona

Kevin De Bruyne ranked in third at this year’s ceremony, behind just Sadio Mane and Karim Benzema – who was crowned winner.

3. Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City

De Bruyne bubbled along nicely through the first half of the season before exploding during the run in as he scored a number of crucial goals in both the Premier League and Champions League for City.

  • 2. Sadio Mane (Liverpool – moved to Bayern Munich)
  • 1. Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
