Manchester City fear Ilkay Gundogan will snub their contract offer to leave on a free transfer, according to reports.
The German international’s contract at the Etihad expires at the end of the current season and reports have emerged suggesting he could walk away for free this summer.
The 32-year-old has played 15 games for City’s this season and remains an important player for the Premier League champions, albeit he is not a guaranteed starter.
According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Man City are worried Gundogan ‘will snub their contract offer’ to leave on a free transfer next summer.
The report states that City have been in contact with Gundogan’s camp to discuss an extension but there is no agreement currently in place.
The German international has interest from Juventus and Barcelona, so he won’t be short of offers if he does leave.
Gundogan, who was Guardiola’s first signing since taking over at City, has played 268 games for the Premier League champions and has netted 51 times.
It was his late winner against Aston Villa that handed City the title on the final day of last season, the fourth he has won in England.
