Man City get double injury boost as Pep Guardiola’s side confirm 21-man travelling squad to face Borussia Dortmund in Champions League group stage clash

Manchester City have announced a travelling squad of 21 players for the Champions League Group G fixture again Borussia Dortmund, with John Stones and Aymeric Laporte fit enough to be included.

The reigning Premier League champions will be looking to kick on from a successful weekend of action, as they battled past an impressive Brighton outfit in a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the clash at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night, Manchester City put together their final preparations over in East Manchester, with Pep Guardiola’s squad looking in a strong place in regards to fitness issues.

Despite a knock late on in the win over Brighton, Aymeric Laporte trained as normal with his City teammates.

John Stones also continued his training this week, as the England international looks to develop his fitness after a period of time out with a hamstring problem.

Kalvin Phillips was a welcome face back in training on Monday, although he was working separately to the main group with a coach, predominantly doing fitness drills as well as some passing exercises. He is not part of the travelling squad, but his return to some form of training suggests he is on course for his recovery from a shoulder injury.

Kyle Walker is the only player now not in training, although he indicated last week he is optimistic over his own recovery from surgery as both he and Phillips look to return in time to make England’s World Cup squad.

Here is Manchester City’s confirmed 23-man travelling squad for their fifth Champions League group-stage tie of the season.

Goalkeepers: Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, Scott Carson.

Defenders: Rico Lewis, Joao Cancelo, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte, Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

Midfielders: Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva.

Forwards: Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish.
