‘Goat inside and outside the stadium’ – Cristiano Ronaldo’s respectful act towards Man City spotted by fans

Share

Cristiano Ronaldo respectfully avoided stepping on the Manchester City badge as he entered the Etihad.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute against Man City as his Man United side were hammered 6-3 by Pep Guardiola’s side.

He probably would have fancied his chances of starting against Pep Guardiola’s side. But the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was once again back on the bench for a Premier League game.

However, that did not stop him from showing respect to their city rival Man City. Before the kick-off, Ronaldo was captured walking from the side as he did not want to step on Manchester City’s crest as a token of respect.

It looked like the Portuguese superstar was about to step over it but with a sign of respect for Man United’s rivals, he sidestepped the crest and walked towards the dressing room.

The Manchester United star purposefully moved away from the printed floor as he entered the Etihad on Sunday (October 2). Ronaldo spotted it while making his way to the changing rooms and changed his course to avoid walking over it.

Not stepping on a badge is an unwritten rule for footballers which divides fans, some hailing the sign of respect while others believing it’s a nonsensical act.

His approach is a far cry from ex-Man United midfielder Ander Herrera, who appeared to spit on the Man City crest as he walked off the pitch during their Premier League clash in 2018.

The video shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of football lovers, who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on the matter.
