Manchester City are set to battle arch rivals Man United and Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni, according to reports.

Bastoni was the subject of interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur last season, and Manchester City have now made their feelings known.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester City have interest in Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan ahead of a so called defensive reshuffle that is said to take place at the club very soon.

The club wanted a centre-back in the summer, and made enquiries for Jules Kounde and Pau Torres during their search. The search stopped when Nathan Ake decided to stay, but the club still want a new centre-back regardless.

The report reveals that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Bastoni and could attempt to bring the Tottenham and Manchester United target to the Etihad in 2023.

The Italy international has made eight appearances in all competitions for Inter Milan this season, and is a key player for Simone Inzaghi.

However, an exit from the San Siro in 2023 could definitely be possible if recent events are anything to go by. The Inter star has had a difficult start to the season and he was seen venting his frustration on the bench after being taken off just 31 minutes into the Nerazzurri’s clash against Udinese on Sunday.

The centre-back will only have 12 months remaining on his contract when the summer of 2023 comes around, so if he continues to experience frustrations in Milan, Manchester City could get their hands on him.

Bastoni fits the profile of a Guardiola player, and is one of the names in consideration by the club. Josko Gvardiol is also a player on that list, and there is expected to be more names linked as transfer windows come closer.

While the likes of Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake already make up Guardiola’s backline, if any of those men were to depart, Bastoni could come as a fantastic replacement.

Valued at around £50 million, members of the Italian press have labelled Bastoni ‘world class‘ with Serie A expert Conor Clancy also calling the starlet a ‘defensive genius‘.
