Manchester City Football Club have been dealt an injury blow, as Kyle Walker, who had to go off due to injury in the game against Aston Villa on Saturday, was absent from training this morning
Despite his side’s impending Champions League opener with Sevilla and busy schedule, Guardiola opted to keep Walker and Joao Cancelo in their usual full-back roles.
However, with 10 minutes left to go in the contest, 32-year-old Walker signalled that he could not continue and was replaced by Nathan Ake – just back from injury himself.
Pep Guardiola informed the media on Saturday afternoon that the decision to take off Kyle Walker was not a tactical one, and that the player had been carrying an injury since the first-half.
According to Simon Bajkowski, Kyle Walker was absent from Manchester City training this morning. Kalvin Phillips and Manuel Akanji both trained at the City Football Academy, but Kyle Walker was not present.
It is currently unknown what the extent of the injury is. Pep Guardiola detailed that Kyle Walker would be assessed by doctors to determine the extent, but the outcome of that assessment has not yet been released.
It will be interesting to see how Pep tackles the injury situation tomorrow night as he don’t really have a recognised right-back outside of Kyle Walker.
After City Xtra shared this update on Twitter, plenty of Man City supporters reacted to the news on the social media platform.
Here are some of the responses from the club’s fans…

He wasn’t in the best of the forms either so just hope he recovers soon. Cancelo – Gomez pairing vs Sevilla 🤔

“Cancelo? Then Gomez/Ake LB options”

“If Walker isn’t fit for Spurs, that’s a huge blow. Ake will start at LB if he can’t make it, doubt Pep throws Gomez up against Kulu of all wingers in his first PL start.”

“Hopefully he’s back for weekend and Pep plays to his strength of being a full back and doesn’t expect him to be Xavi again for the rest of the season”

Would hate it if he does that vs Sevilla 😭 makes sense vs Spurs since Ake is good defensively. But not vs Sevilla please
