‘Elite mentality’ – Man City fans react as Erling Haaland sends message to critics after spectacular UCL goal

Erling Haaland has claimed that he wants to score as many goals in as few touches as possible after continuing his incredible goalscoring streak for Manchester City on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old has a dream and it’s not good news at all for Premier League teams and those who want strikers to have more touches on the ball

The prolific Norwegian was kept quiet by his old team-mates for much of a cagey Champions League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday but clinically volleyed in six minutes from time.

Haaland connected with Joao Cancelo’s sumptuous cross from the left as he rose his left leg high in the air to give his side a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium. This took his record to 13 goals in eight matches for City since his arrival in July.

Wednesday’s match was not the first time that Haaland has struggled to get involved in City’s build-up play, but he has insisted that he doesn’t care as long as he keeps getting on the scoresheet.

According to the Norwegian star, he’s not particularly interested in having so many touches and wants to score as many goals as possible with fewer touches.

When asked whether he would like to get more touches in matches, Haaland told BeIN SPORTS on Wednesday night: ‘My dream is to touch the ball five times and score five goals! That’s my biggest dream.’

The 22-year-old appears to be aware of others pointing out his lack of involvement aside from scoring, but he has said that he will not be distracted by this and will continue to concentrate on putting the ball in the back of the net.

‘People maybe talk about that I don’t touch the ball enough, but I don’t care about this.

‘I know what I’m going to do, what I have to do, and this is exactly what I did today in a difficult match. And this is exactly what I will keep doing,’ he said.

These Haaland’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
