‘This is getting ridiculous now’, ‘We need him!’ – Man City fans react as highly-rated youngster in talks over a loan move to Sheffield United

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims James McAtee is in talks over a loan move to Sheffield United after the Championship side made an offer yesterday.

The 19-year-old is highly regarded by the Etihad club and was recently rewarded with a new three-year contract for his efforts at the club.

He was a star performer for City’s U23s and looked a cut above the rest at youth level. He managed 18 goals and seven assists in 23 Premier League 2 games while also impressing in the UEFA Youth League, though he only made six senior appearances.

His limited first-team game time has led to speculation over a possible loan exit, with a number of clubs interested in signing the youngster.

Pep Guardiola’s side were unsure if they wanted to let the attacking midfielder go this window with the likelihood being he would play the early rounds of the League Cup and the FA Cup.

However it was reported last week that the Premier League Champions have given James McAtee the green light to go out on loan this season.

According to the latest information from the Daily Mail, James McAtee is in talks over a loan move to Sheffield United with the Championship side leading Premier League trio Bournemouth, Leeds and Forest in race to land 19-year-old.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“This is getting ridiculous now, a few injuries and we’re f**ked. In an extremely busy season and the World Cup in the middle.”

“He’ll surely get playing time at City this season. why loan him out? The season is so long, there’d be injuries n fatigue.. we need Such backup players. Not bad also to have a Good squad depth.. even Man United are trying to do so. This team just gets weaker each passing day”

“Gundo, KDB, Bernardo, Foden, Grealish, Phillips ahead of him in midfield so it doesn’t seem like he’ll get much minutes. with the 5 sub rule though i was hoping he could stay and get some minutes vs weaker teams.”

“The truth is that we overrate James Mcatee but he isn’t ready yet. To shy and not arrogant enough. Pep could have kept him if he was ready.”
