Pep Guardiola has refused to be drawn into a debate on referees decision on Kieran Trippier red card incident after Manchester City’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Sunday,
In the 73rd minute of the match, Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne skipped past former Tottenham right-back Trippier.
The England international right-back then lunged in to stop the Belgium international midfielder. The referee gave Trippier a straight red card.
However, VAR then got involved, and the referee went to the screen to check the incident. Jarred Gillett overturned his own decision and gave Trippier a yellow card instead.
Pep Guardiola when asked whether he thought it was a red card challenge on first viewing he said: “Probably, yeah, but I don’t want to be involved in that. I think the foul was clear but I don’t know if it’s a red card.
“I said it probably looks like [a red card] but I didn’t watch it [back again]. The referee went to the VAR and someone said from the sky – not Sky TV, from heaven – and say go to VAR review, it’s because they saw no intention or aggression.”
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“So much positives to take away from yesterday’s match overall man! The whole Prem should know, you will probably get a pinch of blood for your hard work, but you will always face the wrath!”
