Phil Foden has frustrated plenty of Manchester City fans after deciding against passing to Erling Haaland for the second game in a row.
City came out fighting to secure a 3-3 draw against Newcastle, having at one stage been 3-1 behind in the contest. But they initially took the lead in the match when Ilkay Gundogan slotted past Nick Pope after just five minutes at St James’ Park.
Pep Guardiola’s side had a series of excellent chances to extend their lead before the Magpies hauled themselves back into the tie, one of which fell to England midfielder Foden.
Gundogan played the 22-year-old star in down the left hand side and he saw his effort saved by the feet of Pope. However, it didn’t escape the notice of City fans that Haaland was free for a tap-in in the middle of the box.
The exact same situation happened in the 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, with Haaland again looking disillusioned with his teammate. Pep Guardiola was also less than pleased on the touchline.
While Foden’s selfishness didn’t make a difference last week, this time, it cost City. Newcastle came roaring back with three superb goals in 26 minutes either side of half-time from Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier to make it 3-1.
Many Man City fans Supporters vented their fury at Foden’s wastefulness on social media.
One fan wrote: “Phil Foden did the same AGAIN… could’ve easily squared to Erling Haaland, but instead opted to shoot himself. Pep absolutely furious..”
Another fans said: “Foden easily robbing Haaland of goals.” Another fan commented: “Not sure how much longer Pep will allow Foden to ignore Haaland in good positions – it’s been 3 times this season already he’s blanked him for a tap in.”
As a fourth fans went in harder, adding: “Foden must hate Haaland because why won’t you feed your striker fgs??”
All of this is Foden’s fault, pass to Haaland, 2-0 and the game is done. pic.twitter.com/gOEjAK6tHQ

Foden needs to be humbled. He’s shooting from these angles while Haaland is wide open in both. Pep needs to sit him down. pic.twitter.com/V9C9O78NdV

Foden could have squared that ball for Haaland
Never known Foden to be selfish, this is the 2nd time he has denied Haaland an easy tap in

Jesus Christ Foden how have you ignored the cut back to Haaland AGAIN

How? Last week yes this week no way u can’t tell me he has the time to look up and pick a pass when it makes more sense to shoot and play for a rebound

The comments on this post are absolutely embarrassing and exactly why I hate ‘City Twitter’. 99% of them will never go to a game and are generally clueless.
Well done @PhilFoden on 100 Prem appearances for the champions. Incredible achievement for a 22 year old from Stockport 👏🏻 https://t.co/r3zxKrK8VV

All I was saying last week… is that we got the result we wanted, so focus on the positives and not the negatives. Let the manager fix the problem rather than blasting the guy on Twitter. Phil is an amazing YOUNG player. I’m not saying it’s okay to not pass the ball off…

Come on guys! That one wasn’t as easy as the last one. He probably didn’t even see Haaland there. Remember Foden has the ability to score from those positions, let’s not take that away from him. The pass would’ve peobably gone past Haaland ’cause it would’ve bee a straight pass
