Manchester City fans have been left fuming at the fact new signing Sergio Gomez has been handed the club’s No.21 shirt ahead of the upcoming season.
The 21 year-old has completed an initial £11 million transfer from RSC Anderlecht, with the fee potentially increasing to £16.9 million.
It was initially thought Gomez would have been loaned out once the transfer was completed, but City boss Guardiola confirmed he will stay in Manchester this season.
Gomez will wear the number 21 shirt for Manchester City, as confirmed by the club.
He becomes the latest Spaniard to hold the squad number 21, made famous by legend David Silva. Ferran Torres was the previous holder of the shirt, however the forward moved to Barcelona in January.
Speaking about wearing the number 21 shirt for the Sky Blues, Gomez said: “I think it’s very nice that another Spanish player takes the No.21 shirt [at Man City] and I will give my best wearing it.”
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. it seems the club’s fans are not impressed by his new number.
