Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola refused to be drawn on the significance of his side’s four-point lead over Liverpool in the Premier League table.
The current champions have got their campaign off to a flying start with two wins in their opening two games. The Reds, however, are without a victory following draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
City are at the top of the table with two wins (and two clean sheets) from their opening two fixtures and are four points ahead of Liverpool, the team expected to be their biggest challengers.
With just one point separating the two teams over 38 games last season, some are seeing four after two games as significant between rivals who so often have had such tight contests. Guardiola, however, was not interested in talking up City’s prospects having seen the highs and lows that all teams go through during nine months.
“(It matters) a lot. Just the 111 points to play. It’s very early days. I’m sorry but after two fixtures we can not make any plans about the future” the manager sarcastically said.
“We play Newcastle. Respect to all the other teams we will try to improve our game and win the game.
“It’s just two Premier League games. We have a long way to training, we start the next month we try to improve our principles, our game. The best way to see that is in the games. First two games really good. Now we have to continue that game.
“Liverpool is not my business. This is Manchester City.”
