Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has indicated that Bernardo Silva will not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes.
The Portuguese international has been the centre of transfer speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona, while the Citizens have remained firm in their stance that they want to keep Silva at the club.
Silva has remained a star on the pitch for City in recent years, playing a key role in multiple Premier League title triumphs. Despite being happy playing for the club, he first grew unsettled off the pitch as far back as 2020 during the UK’s first Covid-19 lockdown and began angling for a move.
The issue of his future in Manchester has been a repeated theme in subsequent summers, but City have stood firm this year, with no desire to let him leave.
Now, City official Soriano, who was previously a vice-president at Barcelona, has said as much publicly during an appearance on Què T’hi Jugues on SER Catalunya radio, ruling anything out for now on the basis that there wouldn’t be sufficient time to find a replacement.
“It’s a little late [in the transfer window] to talk about ins and outs. This story has taken many turns and in the end it has never moved from its starting point,” Soriano explained.
These Soriano’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
