Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Bernardo Silva is ready to commit his immediate future to the club and abandon any thoughts of a transfer for this season.
The 28-year-old has been Barça’s top target this summer to reinforce their midfield, so much so that they are prepared to push Frenkie de Jong out of the club to make room for his arrival.
The Portuguese midfielder featured as a substitute in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday as rumours continue to swirl over whether he will will leave the club in the transfer window.
He is a firm fan favourite at the Etihad and received a rousing reception when he emerged from the bench against Bournemouth on Saturday. Fans sang his name for what seemed like an eternity.
Upon the final whistle Bernardo Silva applauded all four stands inside the Etihad, and was the last of City’s players to depart the pitch – He then handed his shirt over to a fan.
On Sunday writting on his Twitter account, Bernardo Silva thanked the City faithful for the reception shown to him when he came off the bench.
Whether it was linked to his future is unclear, but that Bernardo’s post riled up Many Man City supporters, which many presume he might be headed for the exit doors.
But, as per the latest update, Silva will be a Manchester City player for the rest of the season unless something drastic happens between now and September 1.
According to journalist Oliver Kay writting for The Athletic, Bernardo Silva is ready to commit his immediate future to Man City and abandon any thoughts of a transfer for this season at least.
Oliver Kay states that the past few days have brought a softening in the player’s position and an apparent willingness to forget about a move, at least for the coming season.
He further claims Some at Man City believe Bernardo Silva might even be open to discussing an extension to his contract, which runs until 2025.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I love Bernardo as a City fan, but if we’re still going to go through this next summer, then it’s better it ends now – either he goes now, or he signs a contract renewal.”

“Good. I think the board should spend time trying to plan a replacement for next summer. Make an early move like we did this year and if Bernardo leaves at that point, he leaves and we’re not left fumbling around with a huge hole in the squad.”
