Report: Man City interested in Mexican fullback as potential Marc Cucurella alternative

Manchester City have a new target for the left-back position as the club look at options away from Brighton’s Marc Cucurella, according to claims from Mexico.

The Premier League champions have already brought in four fresh faces this summer, including Kalvin Phillips and Erling Braut Haaland from Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko on his way to Arsenal, Manchester City will be in the market for another left-back this summer.

Manchester City and Guardiola have reportedly identified Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella’s as their preferred replacement.

As it stands, though, it appears that City have little intention of meeting Brighton’s asking price, said to be in the region of £50m, and are reportedly looking at other options.

According to TUDN journalist Luis Omar Tapia as relayed by Sport Witness, the Citizens are now interested in signing Gerardo Arteaga, who plays for Belgian side KRC Genk.

However, the report don’t seem to have any information on how advanced are the talks for the Mexican fullback, who had already been linked to Premier League sides Brighton, Fulham and Leeds United this summer.

If City are unwilling to pay £50million for Marc Cucurella then they may be forced to look at cheaper options, such as Grimaldo, Sosa and Gerardo.

The next few weeks will likely prove to be decisive in City’s pursuit of a new left-back. It remains to be seen whether they opt to get closer to Brighton’s valuation of Cucurella or move on to cheaper alternatives.
