Tottenham are expected to appoint Manchester City icon Yaya Toure as academy coache in the coming days.
The 39-year-old is one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. The former Ivory Coast international, who won the Champions League at Barcelona, inspired Manchester City to three Premier League titles, three League Cups and the FA Cup during his time in England.
Toure has been a coach since his playing career came to an end in 2019. Since then, he’s been the assistant manager at Ukrainian outfit Olimpik Donetsk and Russian club Akhmat Grozny. He left the latter position in December, shortly before joining Tottenham.
As reported by the Evening Standard, Toure has been given a full-time position at Spurs after joining the London club on a part-time basis in December.
The Ivorian midfielder has agreed to become an academy coach at City’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, after working with the London club to get his coaching badges.
The move represents the next step up in Toure’s coaching career, having taken on something of a journeyman existence in 2021.
Toure is set to be joined in his new role by fellow former Premier League player Jermain Defoe, who is also close to agreeing to become an academy coach at Spurs.
