‘Glad they did’ – Man City fans react as Club reject permanent move for Liam Delap from Southampton

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have rejected an approach for Liam Delap on a permanent move from Southampton.

The 19-year-old striker has been tipped for great things as he has shown glimpses of his potential in the junior ranks at Manchester City.

Contracted until 2026, Delap is a big prize in a devastatingly good City youth side and Guardiola is already aware of just how talented the youngster is.

He is highly-rated by the Premier League champions but with Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland added to their ranks in the summer, the England youth international is obviously going to find it very hard to get regular football.

Southampton have held long standing interest in Delap, but Manchester City are not prepared to let him go yet.

According to Sam Lee from the Athletic, Manchester City have rejected a permanent move from Southampton for Liam Delap this month, as Man City prefer to loan him out, with a Championship club favoured.

Sam Lee states that Manchester City and Southampton have a good relationship, with City having already sold Romeo Lavia and Gavin Bazunu to the Saints, but Liam Delap is a player they don’t want to lose yet.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Good, if he does well on loan we could sell him at good price or even integrate him to the squad.”

“Southampton are very thin up top this season, only really have Che Adams and Adam Armstrong as their main striker options, I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing Liam there on loan but my only concern is that I want him starting as many games as possible.”

“I would rather to keep him and Pep need start to trust him, give him more minutes.
With Haaland injury history, 1st year Alvarez, and also Alvarez can play as RW, Liam Delap will be perfect super sub.”

“I’m glad they did. With Jesus gone, we’ll need a backup striker.”

“Honestly think this is the better decision to give Delap some game time without giving him away.”

“Would love to see Delap at Burnley, big brexit striker.”
